Jónsi is the solo project of Jón Þór Birgisson, lead vocalist/guitarist of Sigur Rós.  He hails from Iceland, and is well on his way to cementing his role as one of the 5 things that Iceland is known for – the other 4 obviously being Björk, hot springs, economic crises, and the hockey team from Mighty Ducks 2.

Both Jónsi and Sigur Rós create remarkably beautiful music, fusing classical orchestral components with dynamic vocals ranging from the mellow to the dramatic falsetto, and wrapping them all up in moving melodies.  For those of you familiar with Sigur Rós, Jónsi will sound very familiar.  His music comes across as being slightly more accessible, due to both a faster paced, more pop-oriented sound, as well as lyrics that are predominantly in English (I don’t know about you, but my Icelandic is a bit rusty), but the end result is the same: emotive, exquisite songs that never fail to bring a smile to my face.
