#4: The National w/ The Antlers (June 9 @ Massey Hall)

Omgomgomgomgomgomg.  According to Last FM, The National are my #3 most played band and with good reason – I can’t get enough of the deep penetrating vocals and sweeping melodies the band produces.  Their last performance in Toronto at the Kool Haus in May 2009 did not disappoint, despite (or due to?) Matt Berninger’s inebriated state and inability to keep the mic stand upright (as per my own unverified observation).  This time around they’ve upgraded the venue to two dates at Massey Hall, a testament to their increasing popularity.  Massey Hall will be a great venue for them – it is the scene of one of my favourite concerts of all-time, and the fantastic acoustics make up for the fact that I don’t quite fit in the seats (damn you stunted ancestors!).  They also have the Antlers opening for them – another Brooklyn-based band which I have been looking to see.  The stars are aligned for a great show.
